Central Pa. resident scammed out of $98K worth of cryptocurrency: police

A 66-year-old Lancaster County resident lost nearly $100,000 worth of cryptocurrency earlier this month after falling victim to a scam.
The victim’s computer and cell phone were compromised after clicking on a pop-up link that showed a warning message and a phone number to call. The victim gave the scammer personal information and access to their cryptocurrency account after speaking on the phone over multiple days, according to a Pa. State Police report.
The scammer withdrew $98,000 worth of various cryptocurrencies after gaining access to the victim’s account, police said.
State police in Lancaster County are investigating the case.
